The mission of the Departement of Waste Management (GD) is to promote innovative and sustainable technologies and strategies for appropriate waste management. Through its work, the Department has been involved in developing the National Strategy and the Waste Management Plan, as well as developing other strategic documents for the Ministry of Environment. Within the Department, studies are being carried out for local and regional public authorities concerning waste management, environmental impact assessment, and development of technologies for the recovery of useful materials from hazardous and non-hazardous waste, studies for economic operators concerning waste, leachate and soil, risk and impact assessment of waste.

Integrated waste management (municipal waste, waste-specific streams, hazardous/non-hazardous industrial waste, etc.) in the context of the circular economy;
