The Department of Natural and Technological Hazards (HNT) main field of activity are studies on phenomena related to natural and anthropogenic hazards and the development of preventive technologies, in order to reduce the risk of their impacts to the environment. In addition, HNT monitors the magnitude of potential natural and anthropogenic impacts on air, water, soil and biodiversity. The Department has extensive experience in monitoring of hydrotechnical constructions that may impact the sturgeons` migration pathways, the development of techniques to combat poaching in the Lower Danube River, as well as technologies for monitoring environmental factors and biodiversity that are subject to natural and anthropogenic hazard induced phenomena.

Area of competence

Elaboration of studies and research on flood risk;
Elaboration of studies and research for environmental risk assessment, the prediction, prevention and mitigation of its impacts;
Topo-geodetic measurements and bathymetric measurements (2D and 3D);
Monitoring of hydrodynamic parameters, morphological parameters and water quality parameters (turbidity, temperature, salinity, pH, etc.).
Monitoring the migrations pathways of sturgeons -tagged with ultrasonic transmitters-using the DKTB fixed receiver stations and the DKMR-01T flooting receiver station;
Numerical simulation of phenomena that characterize natural and anthropic hazards;
Developing techniques / technologies and procedures for the implementation of preventive solutions that reduce the negative effects of anthropogenic and natural hazards;
Drilling works for geodetic surveys;
Mapping and risk assessment caused by landslides.

Assessing the impact of hydrotechnical constructions subject to natural hazards;
Monitoring the migration pathways of sturgeons tagged with ultrasonic tags;
In-situ implementation of the DKTB and DKMR-01T monitoring systems;
Rendering of complex maps concerning the correlation of the hydrodynamic/hydromorphological parameters with sturgeon behavior;
Implementation of techniques for combating poaching on the Borcea- Bala River section;
Integrated environmental monitoring programs, national regulations (methodologies).
